Happiness

From a Buddhist perspective, the purpose of life is happiness. I came across this article about how happiness, according to US researchers ‘rubs off on others’ and ‘is infectious and ripples through social groups’. I hope you enjoy reading it…
A study of 5,000 adults suggests a person’s happiness is dependent on the happiness of those [...]

Complaining

This is an extract from a presentation called Facing Life’s Difficulties by David Hare (www.positiveopposite.com). Makes a great read and I hope you enjoy it:
NEVER COMPLAIN!
The first thing is not to complain. Not ever. Tell all your friends, “the complaints department is closed.” This is very important. Complaint sucks away our good fortune, it denies [...]

A friend shared these at a meeting a while back and I think they’re great! (Thanks, Anna!)
Bette Davis:
You will never be happier than you expect. To change your happiness, change your expectation.
Hugh Downs:
A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes.

November Challenge

I received this from a friend. A bit lengthy but well worth a read I think..
Appreciation: Learning it is difficult because our society always teaches us about good and bad, right and wrong. We are programmed to believe in good and bad. If we have the things we want we are happy. If we [...]

Buddhism and War

Found this interesting artice on the BBC website (http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/buddhism/buddhistethics/war.shtml)
Buddhism and War
Non-violence is at the heart of Buddhist thinking and behaviour. The first of the five precepts that all Buddhists should follow is “Avoid killing, or harming any living thing.”
Buddhism is essentially a peaceful tradition. Nothing in Buddhist scripture gives any support to the use of [...]

I came across this great piece of guidance by Dave Baldschun SGI-USA Study Department Senior Staff – I hope you like it!
“I have heard that in Nichiren Buddhism, no prayer goes unanswered. But I don’t always feel like I got the specific thing I chanted for.
So what does “No prayer goes unanswered” mean? There [...]

Five Keys To Becoming Happy

I came across another piece by Shin Yatomi and thought I would share it. I hope you enjoy it.
How do I become happy?
If you lived in a palace where you could enjoy everything – beauty, health, money and power – would you consider leaving behind such a ‘happy’ life? I probably would not.

But one [...]
