I have just been to see ‘Harry Potter and The Order Of The Phoenix’ and could not believe my eyes (or ears)!
This truly remarkable film is excellent entertainment and profound in content.
The story (without giving too much away) centres on Harry’s developing mental / spiritual connection with The Dark Lord Voldemort and contains obvious references to Buddhism.
Sirius Black, talking to an increasingly imperilled Harry, says,
“ The world is not divided into good people and death-eaters, Harry. We all have light and dark. It’s how we choose to live our lives that’s important.”
Harry’s struggle leads him to realise the true nature of his own life (!) by discovering an orb (once he realises where to look for it) which contains the prophecy relating to the struggle (and ultimately choice) between good and evil.
“Neither can survive whilst the other one lives”.
JK Rowling a Buddhist, maybe?
That the Daily Mirror (UK tabloid newspapers are not always renowned for their enlightened reporting) should cite Sirius’ quote as one of the highlights of the film may mean that Bob Dylan was right. The Times They Are A-Changin’.
“ The world is not divided into good people and death-eaters, Harry. We all have light and dark. It’s how we choose to live our lives that’s important.”
Sounds a bit like Obi-Wan Kenobi, too.
I hope to visit Hogwarts and environs this weekend.
Good job on the blog.
